Join us on a remarkable journey of discovery as we explore the Creator's handiwork and what His creation reveals about His character. Here Is January

Here we are in January 2022. I was twelve in January 1960. It seemed strange to write 1960 for I did not remember anything other than the 1950s. I wondered how many times I would see the third number of the year roll over. Could I possibly live to see the year 2000? I did a little math and saw I would be two weeks beyond my fifty-second birthday in January 2000. I could not imagine being that old but knew people did live that long, so it was possible I'd see the year 2000.  The years sped along, 2000 rushed past, and here we are 22 years later. I'm still kicking (but not as high) and now 52 seems young.
January is my introvert season. I don't care to venture out more than necessary. I am happy sitting at home crocheting and scrapbooking. This winter, for a change, I'm not writing a book. Now and then I'll write a short story, but I have no big projects going on and nothing planned. Since Leroy is retired and at home every day, we do things together. He volunteers at four different places, and I go with him sometimes. Winter is the resting season, a time to reflect on the past and recharge for the future.

Here is January, partly done---
Not as rare as June with its warming sun,
Or soft like April with shades of green,
Ot hot like July with mosquitos and screen.
It's January--cold and iced in pure white,
When the day seems so short, and long is the night.
When "thrift" is the word which father pronounces;
"Less spending this year!" he firmly announces.

Mother's still finding pine needles about,
Bits of tinsel, broken presents to be carried out.
January's good to the children around,
With its ice and good skating, and snow on the ground.
It brings to the feeders many colorful birds,
Whose beauty and swiftness defy written words.
It brings sunrises glorious over snow-covered rills
And breathtaking sunsets beyond the far hills.

There's beauty in January, and time to remember,
We're closer to spring than we were in December.
