Sausage, Noodles and Apples

I got this recipe from one of my daughters-in-law. It sounded like a strange combination but we only had to taste it once to know it's a winner. We're having it for supper tonight so I thought I'd share the recipe.

1/2 package wide noodles
4 apples
4 tbs. butter
3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 lb. sweet Italian sausage (you can use regular sausage but it won't taste as good)

Cut sausage into small pieces and fry. Meanwhile, boil noodles until finished. Pare and cut apples into thin slices.
Melt 2 tbs. butter and place in 9x13 dish. Place half of the cooked, drained noodles in the dish, half of the sausage pieces, and half of the apple slices. Mix the cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle half of this mixture on the apples. Repeat layers. Dot with remaining butter.
Bake at 350 for 30-45 minutes or until apples are soft.
Enjoy!

Greetings Romaine,

I have been reading some of your Burkholder information and found it really helpful. I am now wondering what you know about the Burkholder family "on the mountain" just out of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. They used to be Mennonite but became United Brethren and eventually Methodist. Their church is still known as the Burkholder Methodist Church. A lady from there sent me a good bit of information about that family and congregation. Do you know if they were connected to your Burkholders, and if so, how?

While teaching school in north-eastern Ontario in the 1970s I stayed with the John Burkholder family near Boulter (not far from Bancroft). They were from the Burkholders of the Markham area, near Toronto.

May the peace of Christ be with you,
